Amazing wine. Really open and voluptuous from first opening with amazing perfume and Burgundian musk. Dark cherry/black cherry fruit with a silky mouthfeel and long finish. Truly awesome bottle and it arguably bettered a terrific Arlaud Clos Saint Denis 1999 cuvée unique served alongside.

Medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Gently perfumed with ripe fruit, notes of meat, liquorice and furntiure polish. Touch of blood. Medium bodied, sweet red and plum fruit, soil, touch of meat, quite seductive with soft tannins, lovelty fresh acids, touch of liquorice on the lightly grippy finish. Excellent, continues to drink well.

Popped and poured with Pork Loin roast and mashed potatoes. Nose had a bit of earthiness on it, slight fruit. Color showed very little browning. But this did not do it for me. Slight "metallic" flavor that kept popping up. Glad I only spent one Grant on one bottle. Drink up now or use it for cooking a stew/pot roast.

Dekantert 1 t. Mørk kjerne, lite utvikling med tanke på fargen. Det lukter treverk, fioler og urter. Dyp og konsentrert munnfølelse, utrolig bra village! Mørk frukt og god friskhet harmonerer godt i ganen, bra lengde og litt urter i rekylen. Energisk og holdbar vin, vil holde en stund til. Fantastisk kjøp i sin tid.

Notes: while this wine offers an extensive and diverse set of aroma, at 14% ABV it is indeed a little heavy and without a better description, it lacks the elegance and finesse one expects from a top Grand Cru in Burgundy. Although it may still be a little young to right now and it has probably just stepped in, or about to step into the appropriate drinking window, I do think that a better job can be done on the balance of the wine and would very much prefer a lighter touch to this wine. I can only say I expected a bit more from this.

Excellent wine, bordering on outstandig. It is truly outstanding for a village wine, but the Parker scale operates on absolute rather than relative measures. Very dark for a village wine that's eighteen years old. Like the previous bottles, there's furniture polish, some herbs (dried, I'd say, rather than fresh) and a dark undertow. Harmonious and smooth in the mouth, with decent length. Outstanding for the level, but excellent overall.

Translucent ruby. Nose of wildflowers, damp cellar, meaty tones, saline, young berry. Layers of crunchy dark berry, beef blood, sauvage, and iron on the hearty, pure palate. Fresh acidity and firm tannin. Long finish of mildly rustic, coppery red fruit cut with stone and iron. An excellent village wine full of youthful, unbridled energy.

Now developing mature, savoury flavours, but still fresh and with good acidity; the mid-palate is lively and it has good length; quite elegant but perhaps a touch lean. Good for a village wine.

Very spicy nose, slight hint of leather, floral, morello cherry.
Rather spherical on the palate, powerful finish, evokes whole grapes (?). I liked it. 94-95

Nez très épicé, légère note cuir, floral, griotte
Bouche plutôt sphérique, finale puissante, fait vendange entière (?). J’ai aimé. 94-95

Okay. This just keeps getting better and better. I think I took my last sip a half hour ago, and yet it still haunts me. Hard to rate Burgs above 95, but this is one that deserves it.

Aromas: Kirsch, black cherry, oak, liquorice, cedar. Peppercorn and some gameyness after some time opening up.

A beguiling scent, with a lot of ripeness for an 18 year old.

On the tongue: Medium acidity, delicate tannins, supple. Lasts a long time on the tongue.

Incredibly perfumed and interesting wine.

After some time, blueberry compote becomes the dominant aroma.

Poured from Coravin over 2 weeks. First pour was red cherry, red plum, pronounced aromas with lovely palate. A week later fruits mostly gone but still had good acid with sandy tannins.

Dark red, but with a fresh nose of cherry and earth. Needs some time to unfurl, I wouldn't be scared to decant this a while. Swish and delicious, perfectly mature with the sweetness of age apparent in the fruit which is somewhere between red and dark. Very attractive indeed, it is on the light side of medium-bodied, perhaps not as elegant as a truly amazing red burgundy, but this has some structure alongside a lightness of touch. Very nice. I think it will keep a number of years from here.

Deep and dense full ruby. Dark red fruit with a nicely earthy depth. Positive attack, quite rich, finely velvet with good density. Tannins largely integrated and powdery, nicely integrated with good acidity giving the sense of structure towards the finish with excellent density for a village wine. Initial nose of red berries and fruit, which gradually evolved to plum notes with hints of black pepper. Tannins are resolved, and there is moderate depth. On the palate, there were rich fruits of more raspberries with nice liveliness too.

I guessed particularly from the tannins, bright acidity and colour, that this may be an early-2000s Super Tuscan. Wrong... Its a Burg, from Cote de Nuit! This is the northern part of the Côte d'Or, which is a limestone ridge in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, near Dijon.

Today, Domaine Alain Burguet has over 10 hectares in total. Sons, Jean-Luc and Eric Burguet took over the domaine in 2010, but have worked alongside Alain since 1999.

Domaine Burguet is headquartered in Gevrey-Chambertin, and produces a full range of Pinot Noir. Alain Burguet, father to Jean-Luc and Eric, created the domaine in the 1970s. Alain used to help older vineyard owners tend to their vines, and as they retired, he purchased many small parcels across Gevrey.

Their style is that of a richer Pinot that starts with a later harvest date. As is tradition, the family is frequently among the last to harvest, often 7-10 days after their neighbors. Besides these holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burguets purchase grapes from friends to make a small range of wines from Chambolle and this particular Chambertin-Clos de Beze.

Very Gevrey in terms of its meaty, black-fruited profile, this is wonderfully balanced with good weight, while charmingly mature. Best to enjoy now through 2026 or so.
